Strega Nona is back again and this time she faces her biggest challenge yet Strega Amelia Tomie dePaola did an excellent job on both the illustrations and the story and therefore, makes Strega Nona meets her match an instant treat.Tomie dePaola s storytelling is clever and funny as he details Strega Nona s efforts to get her job back from Strega Amelia Also, the storytelling gets extremely hilarious when Big Anthony tried to do everything right for Strega Amelia, but ends up running all the mach [...]

    2. We enjoy reading Tomie dePaola s books and this book in the Strega Nona series does not disappoint Strega Nona gets a bit of competition from an old friend But she handles it with the grace that only Strega Nona has, as well as with a little help from Big Anthony.

    3. This was an interesting book, it had an almost predictable plot, but was still enjoyable I liked the illustrations, they were simple and sweet I might recommend this book to other Strega Nona fans Taken from my book reviews blog reviewsatmse 2009

    4. I read some of Straga Nona stories and I can t blame or hate Anthony although he sometimes act immaturely since he is just a little boy It is fun to see what result his action brought at the end.

    5. Strega Nona is such a great book to give helpful life morals that are not given straight forward Students have to figure out why certain characters are upset and what someone could have done differently I would use this story in a 2nd or 3rd grade classroom, I think this is a good book for students to make predictions of what they think may happen and how the characters in the book will feel Teachers could use these books as an opportunity to talk about ethics or morals Bambolona was very upset [...]

    6. It s not hard to see who young readers will pull for when Strega Amelia, a healer and wise woman like Strega Nona but who uses modern technology instead of the old remedies, moves into town and completely wins over to her side all of Strega Nona s clients Kids who have ever felt usurped in any way will identify with the situation that confronts Strega Nona, who even has to face the defection of her assistant Big Anthony to Strega Amelia when she runs out of money to pay her two person staff Howe [...]

    7. Our family just loves the Stega Nona book series and this one was another perfect one to add to our collection Strega Nona has an old friend come to visit Her friend decides that she wants to take set up her shop there in Strega Nona s town I could not believe that her friend did that, however, after putting Strega Nona out of business her friend makes the mistake of hiring Big Anthony Which if you have read the Strega Nona books before, you will know that Big Anthony messes up everything he tou [...]

    8. I was disappointed in this Strega Nona story I remember loving her stories as a child but I didn t learn a thing from this book except the old way of doing thing is better than trying a modern method Not the best message to send to gets in an ever changing technological world that they have to be ready for My 78 year old father would love this story, but I m ready to embrace change if it s for the better.

    9. Strega Nona is the village healer She has old fashioned remedies that everyone depends on She has her children help her manage the large client base However, another Strega decides to open her own remedy store one with modern fixes to the villagers ailments Strega Nona s business screeches to a halt as everyone flocks to the modern fixes This book has a little twist at the end, which makes it a fun read from beginning to end

    10. I love the Italian spread through out the pages of this beautiful text It would be fun to read it to the students to see if they know any of the Italian I though that Strega Nona was a great example of how she did not get upset that her friend stole her business and because she did not get upset and frantic Strega Nona got her business back This is a wonderful book on manners for children of all ages

    11. i liked this sequel to the original than the christmas version but less than the original i love the old latin idea that sometimes the old ways are the best is a theme the reoccurs in this one as well as the christmas one italians are stubborn and hilarious all at the same time although i did find myself getting bored by the illustrations this time and just speeding through the text so maybe i am getting a little type of this authors style.

    12. My daughter read the first Strega Nona book in school, and she insisted we go to the library and get a ton of them What I liked best about this one is how clever Strega Nona was in how she dealt with her problems This is a great series of picture books to read aloud to kids there are all kinds of things like magic spaghetti pots, clumsy apprentices, and magical kisses that bring the story to life The illustrations are fantastic, almost comic strip style.

    13. Strega Nona is visited by Strega Amelia, who likes the new way of doing things Soon, all the townspeople begin going to Strega Amelia and Bambolona and Big Anthony have to find new jobs Big Anthony starts working for Strega Amelia, and on a day when she leaves him in charge, messes things up, so the townspeople end up back at Strega Nona s Strega Nona and Strega Amelia part ways amicably.

    14. Picture Book 15I enjoyed this book as it not only had a descriptive storyline, but also contained some dialogue in Italian, which was fun to read through in the context of the story As a teacher, I think that this would be a great story for older elementary level children to read, as it is still fun but contains challenging text and dialogue throughout it.

    15. Cute story about a doctor back in the old country that has a competing doctor move in her town She ends up losing her business to her and her new ways of healing Through a strange turn of events she is able to win back her patients.

    16. Nothing like competition between two stregas, and alas Big Anthony knowingly or unknowingly saves the day How funny that Big Anthony mixed up the getting rid of wart cream with the growing hair potion A fun read.

    17. Strega Nona has a frenemy When Strega Amelia comes to visit she decides Strega Nona has a pretty good set up, and decides to give her a little competiton She even hires away Big Anthony DePaola s signature art is soft, a little comical, and invokes a strong sense of time and place.

    18. Ok, not great I tend to stay away from sequels and cash ins as they rarely exceed or even reach the heights of the original But I guess it s a way to throw the author a few bucks Except I got this from the library Doh

    19. We read this book for our literature co op and enjoyed it as much as the original Strega Nona It was fun to see new characters getting into trouble Once again, the illustrations were a delight.
