One Reply to “Death of the Party”

    1. Loved that the book has a bookstore called Death on Demand bookstore, and that there were titled coffee mugs that connected to the pictures on display in the store Definitely sounded like somewhere I d like to hang out

    2. Just when you think Carolyn Hart s Death on Demand series can t stay fresh and has no where new to go without seeming ridiculouse pulls it off in fine form.

    3. Carolyn Hart hearkens back to Agatha Christie s Ten Little Soldiers and sets this mystery on an island with people invited under false pretenses This time, everyone there was connected to Jeremiah Addison who died a year ago His death was not accidental but very few people know that One of them is Britt Barlow, Jeremiah s sister in law When he died, his wife inherited She, at the time, was slowly dying of cancer and passed soon after The island passed to Britt Now the killing has started again a [...]

    4. Had this one pegged from the beginning, thus the 3 star rating Second guessed myself a couple of times, but if Max and Annie had only listened when I kept yelling at them, the climax would have been much less of a nail biter I still enjoyed the book, and this continues to be one of my favorite series Annie channeling her inner Laurel was so amusing for me I continue to hope this series doesn t end any time soon, because I always look forward to the next installment.

    5. As far as the series goes I think there is definitely better. For some reason I could not get into this story Maybe because it had none of characters I have grown to love since the start of the series Also I just watched 10 Little Indians on TV and this was just too similar Overall not bad, but it will stop me for reading the rest of the series.

    6. Max and Annie Darling leave the comfort of Broward s Rock Island in Carolyn G Hart s Death of the Party to visit the isolated Golden Silk Island at the request of Britt Barlow A year earlier she discovered her brother in law, Jeremiah Addison, at the bottom of the house stairs, murdered by a wire strung across the marble staircase To spare her sister, who was dying of cancer, the pain of a murder investigation, Britt removed the evidence of the crime But now that Britt has inherited Golden Silk [...]

    7. I probably would have liked this book better if I hadn t recently read Dead Man s Island in the Henrie O series by the same author They were incredibly similar in that both books have their own private island, and the owner invites a group of mostly family and employees to the island under false pretenses to see which of them is a murderer In both books the owner turns out to be the criminal In both books the owner invites our star sleuth s to the island and tells the rest of the guests a differ [...]

    8. Britt Barlow is certain her media mogul brother in law Jeremiah Addison s fatal tumble a year ago was no accident especially since she herself discovered, and disposed of, the trip wire someone had strung across the stairs Now she s bringing all who were in attendance that weekend back to Golden Silk Addison s luxurious secluded island estate and inviting two extra guests, Annie and Max Darling, to help uncover a killer Annie Darling wouldn t miss this party for the world And there certainly is [...]

    9. It s been a bit since I ve read this series, so I was happy to be back in Max and Annie s world This story was a bit different as Max and Annie go to a private island to help the owner catch a murderer, so the normal supporting characters only show up at the very end of the book. What I enjoyed I really love Max and Annie s relationship They have a great marriage and seem like they would be fun to hang out with The story was interesting A group of people brought back to the island where one of th [...]

    10. This is book 16 in the Death on Demand series, but the first one I ve read It was good reminded me a lot of Agatha Christie s And Then There Were None an isolated island, a group of people arriving by invitation, a murder taken place in the past The invitations are issued by the heiress of the island in order to nail the murderer who took the life of the island s former owner there 1 1 2 years ago, the powerful and arrogant Mr Jeremiah Addison The detectives here as in the rest of the series are [...]

    11. In this book in the Death on Demand series, Max gets a commission to go to a house party on an isolated offshore island with a single owner and no cell or radio service to try to determine who was the murderer of the former owner at a party 18 months previously Of course, Annie goes with him Everyone at the party with the exception of Annie and Max had reasons to wish the former owner dead There are family problems, fear of a murderer on the loose and no means of escape, along with the usual red [...]

    12. here we have one of the agatha cristie ideas a group of people, in a remote area one death has already occurred and that s what they are there to solve, and then there s another murder, the handyman departs on a boat the hostess didn t mention to anyone, and the remaining people just look around at each other, expecting the worst, but hoping to somehow survive Annie and Max Darling have been invited to solve the problem, she of the bookstore Death on Demand, and he of Confidential Commissions It [...]

    13. This was my first Death on Demand book and I really loved it I really liked the island setting and all the zany characters and I think Ms Hart did a wonderful job of giving the book a spooky, look over your shoulder, look all the doors feel I was scared at times, but I couldn t put it down All in all I thought this was a really well crafted mystery, and I can t wait to read of the books in this series

    14. Ghosts and snapshots were a reminder that what is present will always and inevitably one day be past and what is past was once as real and vigorous and exciting as the present A beautiful quote from the book A good mystery, the first I have read in this series Definitely reminiscent of Agatha Christie, and that is a good thing Any mystery that keeps you guessing til the end is a good one

    15. I have interrupted this book to read others, but have been plugging away to finish this While the author has some clever bits in this book, her wordiness, repetition, and awkward references to other mystery books and characters are distracting With good editing, this book could be a very engaging story.

    16. I have read several of the books in this series and have enjoyed them a lot My problem with this one was that it seemed to drag on I had so much trouble just reading this one I almost put it down and said forget it several times For some reason it just was not one of the better ones in the series as far as I am concerned.

    17. I wish I was Annie Darling I think Hart created a near perfect character with her, by this I mean all my personal aspirations This book was not set in her bookstore too bad , but it was still a good traditional mystery set on an island.

    18. reminiscent of ten little Indians, the girl who inherited an island calls all the people who were on the island when the previous owner died back for a weekend to try and solve the mystery of his death It took me half the book to figure out who the murderer was.

    19. I thought this one of the best of the Death on Demand series I didn t figure out the murderer until the end I did miss the references to other mystery writers and their books There were a few, but I would have liked

    20. This might be one of the best yet The few books before this were lacking originality and were trying waaaayyyy to hard However, Hart has returned to the wonderful mystery writing that captivated me in the first several books of the series.

    21. Very nice read from Carolyn Hart, as usual Her mysteries are told from a female s perspective, similar to the Sue Grafton series I personally think the plot construction of the Hart novels are comparable to Grafton, but Hart s writing style is superior with better character development.

    22. I actually started this book, was terribly bored and confused and then skipped to the end Too many characters and the author wrote this book with the assumption that I already knew what was going on Not my style at all.

    23. Pretty good Didn t realize this was 16 But I enjoyed it the characters, Max and Annie I would like to read the rest of the series Well written I didn t see the killer coming Kept me guessing till the end.

    24. After a break in reading this series, it was fun to get back to it and see that it is as good as ever Well written, quick and easy to read A nice mystery series In this one Annie and Max are stranded on an island with a small group one of whom is a murderer

    25. I liked it, all of them seemed to have a motive for killing Jeremiah Who would have thought that Britt, the one who called everyone on this investigation, was the main culprit

    26. I think I came in late on this series as there was history to these characters than was told It all rather reminded me of Ten Little Indians Interesting.
