    1. This is an unusual book because it covers so many areas of interest It starts out with a young girl in grade school, and ends several month s after she s had her 18th birthday I guess the biggest impression throughout was how she d dealt with depression and other mental issues in much positive ways than some of her relatives That s what made her a strong character in my opinion Her esteem and positive attitude are important messages to young people and older ones, for that matter It is well wri [...]

    2. The publisher should mention in synopsis that a suicide by a close family member takes place in the life of the main character, a 10 year old girl, and the rest of her family It s done with care, but still so I gave it four stars Otherwise it s an exceptional book Misfortune affects each person in the family differently, some can t cope with the pain and turn to alcohol or other negative ways to disassociate from reality The girl faces a lot of challenges, poverty, betrayal within the family, tr [...]

    3. A young adult story, but different since this girl has some very peculiar ways of dealing with bullying, peer pressure and mean people in a small town It s a coming of age and we see her grow into a strong young woman She falls in love several times along the way, and those romantic parts were my favorites The end was a surprise for me because that s just what I wanted to happen, but I didn t think it would.

    4. It s about a girl raised in a Christian household, but early on she questions their beliefs Her father s side of the family are mostly misfits and mean I didn t like how her parents thought it was alright to keep children exposed to this influence She fights bullies, doesn t fit in and has trouble making friends at school There s a raw emotional feeling in the writing that appealed to me Many themes touched on family, relationships, depression, mental illness, death, faith and romance.

    5. I started not liking the book because it was depressing, It got better, but it is very long About 125 chapters The author is from Johnston City, IL and I wanted to read it because of that I put it down and read 3 other books then came back to it It went from this girls gradeschool life until she graduated high school Even though it was so long, by the time it was finished, I wanted it to tell about after high school I did not like how it ended.

    6. This is a charming book about teen life The author has a one of a kind way of describing voices we all sometimes hear The main character is a young girl who wonders if everyone hears these or if she s crazy like some of her relatives She s been let down by so many people around her, she doesn t trust anyone enough to ask until she s older I liked the characters in this story, they were real people, even the weird man who wants to talk about war stories everyone is tired of hearing There are disc [...]

    7. An intelligent but very downtrodden little girl raised in poverty become a strong young woman Reveals the ugliness of what gossip about a family can do to a small child I could have been one of the little boys in this story There were sad and depressing times, but I found it impossible to stop reading Not all books are meant to be cheerful, happy, and painting life in rose colored glasses It covers a lot of territory in emotion land I laughed at some of the characters, but I also cried over the [...]

    8. The God s Children ReviewThis was a hard book to keep up with It was so drawn out and too many details in some areas I wasn t too happy with the ending I know it will probably have a sequel, but don t think I will get it
