    1. 3.5 starsSick, twisted and darkly entertaining.Sylvia Dalton is a washed up, conniving, bitter crone fixated on her past as dancer and stripper, Scarlet Rose A loathesome, vile creature I m yet to read about but Julia Madeleine s ability to vividly portray Sylvia s warped psyche made for page turning reading I couldn t wait for Sylvia to get what was coming to her but I kept turning the pages in morbid fascination.Fiona, the daughter Sylvia forced into the adult entertainment industry at 16 is [...]

    2. The Truth About Scarlet Rose is a story about a once beautiful burlesque stripper, who has a dark psyche, deep hidden secrets and a penchant for getting what she wants at all costs The reader first meets Sylvia Dalton, aka Scarlet Rose in the prequel Scarlet Sins In the prequel, Sylvia Dalton is a beautiful Montreal born girl, who has had a hard life and was desperate to escape from her very dysfunctional family At sixteen years old, she devised a plan to get pregnant by her boyfriend, and she a [...]

    3. Once again the story telling talent of Julia Madeleine shines through with vividness and suspense filled clarity. The Truth About Scarlet Rose is a story of a woman with little to no morals She has treated her children horribly, focused all attention and need on herself and now that her kids are grown, she fills them with guilt because it was their fault that her life is nothing Scarlet is no better than a monster, in my opinion Fiona, Scarlet s oldest daughter, has been forced into the life of a [...]

    4. For those who enjoy murder, mayhem, and suspense, they will find this book appealing Personally, I did not enjoy the book I have discovered this is not a genre I enjoy I trudged through it because I wanted to be fair in my assessment of the book, as well my curiosity needed to be assuaged I had to see if the villain was caught and if there was a happy ever after ending The challenge with reading on a Kindle, it is not as easy to flip to the last page as it is with an actual book I enjoyed the bo [...]

    5. In her day, Sylvia had it all Men adored her and flocked to see her dance She was a stripper known as Scarlet Rose and she basked in the admiration After all, it was no than her due she was made to be rich and adored. But life doesn t always turn out the way a young girl dreams of Now, Sylvia is middle aged, fat and dumpy, living on handouts from her daughter, Fiona She was dragged down by motherhood, kept from what she knew was her rightful place by the demands of three kids Now that they were [...]

    6. This was an interesting book to finish reading on Mother s Day a day when we venerate mother s and their many virtues As a mother, Scarlet Rose aka Sylvia doesn t really have any virtues In fact on pg 205, Scarlet s daughter Suzanne describes her mother perfectly as the Cruella de Vil of mothers She forces her eldest daughter, Fiona onto the stage as a dancer at the age of 16 to support her addictions, and basically allows all manner of evil to befall all of her kids without a thought Despite th [...]

    7. I really enjoyed this black, bleak little debut novel There are no spoilers in the review that follows Julia Madeleine has assembled an interesting cast of needy characters in a suitably dark setting Enter the world of Fiona Dalton where child becomes parent where manipulation is currency where nothing is quite what it seems and no one is really who or what they appear to be.One thing is certain Fiona s stepfather Charlie has been murdered While who murdered him may seem clear early on or does i [...]

    8. The scope and the ambition of THE TRUTH ABOUT SCARLET ROSE are remarkable It s a family story, a women story like you will not find many Sylvia, also known as Scarlet Rose is a character that will follow you like a bad dream long after you will read the last words of the book I m not gonna lie, it could have been a little leaner, but to its merit, THE TRUTH ABOUT SCARLET ROSE is a novel that doesn t compromise It s a thriller drama family drama that dares you to take it or leave it I loved it, g [...]

    9. I received an email update from that had a review of this book I liked the premise so I downloaded it I have to say, finding these gems are one of my favorite things about the Kindle.I really enjoyed this book I thought the characters were likable, even the bad guys And while there was quite a bit of dysfunctional living, it didn t make me cringe Sometimes when reading about drug abuse and child abuse, I just can t take it But this author hit my sweet spot.I also downloaded the prequel and will [...]

    10. I like to think of this as Baby Jane Hudson meets Tom Ripley Sylvia Dalton is one of the most entertaining monsters I ve encountered in quite a while The vituperation she heaps on her family members is horrifying and funny at the same time What a harpy Then she shifts into a different gear for the book s second half, which is reminiscent of Patricia Highsmith s work And the whole thing winds up with a hell of a twist.

    11. Julia Madeleine has become the psychological thriller mistress of dark secrets and twisted psyche Once again she shares her talent for sculpting tangled plots and complex characters as she reveals the truth in this irresistible tome.
